Managing Partner: Amit Mittal
Amit is the founder and managing partner of AUM Research helping banking clients with operational turnaround, bringing about two decades of domestic and international consulting experience. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President at PNC Bank leading their strategic initiatives. His core competencies include Turnaround Execution, Strategic Assessment / Planning, Enterprise Cost Mgmt. and Business/Operating Model Design. Earlier, Amit was a Senior Manager (~Associate Partner) with the Strategy and Operations practice of Deloitte Consulting. In addition to client service, he also built and managed the financial services consulting practice for one of Deloitte’s regions. Amit’s representative clients include Citi, Regions Bank, Key Bank, Wells Fargo, Deutsche Bank, Banco Popular, US Bank, Consumer Bankers Association, AIG, Nuveen Investments, Nationwide, State Farm and Liberty Mutual. Board of Advisors: Paul Colbeck
Paul leads the Enterprise Execution Services team in enabling SunTrust to become more effective and efficient in driving performance improvement programs and projects. Prior to joining SunTrust, Paul spent more than a decade at Deloitte Consulting where he developed and implemented strategies to grow revenue, increase efficiencies, and reduce costs for leading banks. Paul focused on strategy and operations, and he acquired extensive experience in enterprise transformation, operational excellence, and change management. Paul began his career at KeyCorp, where he held leadership roles in consumer finance, strategic planning, and commercial lending.
Paul earned an M.B.A. from Case Western Reserve University and a B.S. in Business from Miami University. Paul has been an active supporter of United Way, and he successfully led multiple fund-raising initiatives and employee solicitation campaigns.


Board of Advisors: Anurag Gupta
Anurag Gupta is the Department Chair, Banking and Finance at Weatherhead school of Management, Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Gupta’s research develops models for examining a variety of fixed income derivatives to examine pricing and hedging performance. The result has been precise recommendations for the appropriate models that should be used for particular options in different markets. Anurag has also researched the effects of illiquidity in financial markets, showing in one study that illiquidity can actually increase the price of fixed income options. He has also examines the relationship between liquidity risk and credit risk using data from the syndicated loan market. He is currently working on several banking, credit risk, and environmental risk related projects.
Anurag earned his Ph.D. from NYU-Stern, an MBA from IIM Calcutta and a BS from IIT, Delhi. (More Details)


Board of Advisors: James Thomson
James Thomson is a professor of finance and finance department chair in the College of Business Administration at the University of Akron. Most recently, Dr. Thomson was a vice president and financial economist in the Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. His research interests focus on financial markets and institutions, regulatory reform, and government-sponsored enterprises. Prior to joining the Bank in 1986, Dr. Thomson worked as a financial economist at the U.S. General Accounting Office. He is currently a member of the American Finance Association as well as the Financial Management Association. He has published numerous papers on federal deposit insurance, bank structure, and bank capital regulation, including articles in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, and Journal of Small Business Management.
Dr. Thomson received his PhD and MA in economics from the Ohio State University and his bachelor’s in economics from Georgia Institute of Technology. (More Details)


Executive Consultant: Don Smith
Don Smith is an accomplished banking industry executive with experience spanning four decades achieving improvement and maintaining stability within large scale operations to achieve revenue, profit and service goals. He possesses extensive banking experience and financial knowledge combined with a keen awareness of all organizational functions, including risk management, operations, finance, and human resources. Most recently, Don was a Senior Vice President at PNC Bank serving as Program Manager solving enterprise level problems. Before that he was Director of Operations Performance and Planning. Don also performed a variety of executive roles for National City Bank, where he was Chief Risk Officer – Operating Risk Management, Chief Financial Officer – Corporate Operations and Information Services, and Senior Vice President for the Investment/Funding Division. Don earned his M.B.A. from Case Western Reserve University and his B.S. in Physics from Case Institute of Technology. He is retired as a Major from the United States Air Force Reserve, and currently serves on the boards of two non-profits in the Cleveland area. Don is also a part-time instructor in the College of Business of Ohio University, teaching graduate courses.
